It is fashionable: What is it and what are the advantages of vegan footwear
Veganism is a growing trend in modern societies, but many are unaware that it goes beyond food, also applying to ecological consumer goods.
But how to identify them correctly? We all know, in general terms, what veganism is, according to the Vegan Association of Spain: a philosophy and way of life that excludes "all forms of exploitation and cruelty towards animals". It was initiated by Donald Watson in the 1940s, going beyond vegetarianism, and promotes avoiding the consumption of products of animal origin in all areas: food, the world of work and education, sports, personal care or, for fashion, of course.
Today, it is a global movement; The ONU estimated in 2019 that the number of vegans in the world was 616,000,000, a figure that continues to rise.
Focusing on the textile industry, many of its products use components that harm living beings: feathers, silk, toxic glues made from bones... The list is long. Therefore, since there is a cruelty free alternative (that is, cruelty free), through ecological materials and without elements that are harmful to the environment or living beings, why not follow this winning and sustainable trend?
Why choose a vegan shoe?
A shoe made with materials without animal origin, first of all, allows us to comply with the vegan philosophy, avoiding harming living beings. In addition, these products are more durable, since their finishes incorporate seams and reinforcements, avoiding ephemeral adhesives. It is biodegradable and skin-friendly, especially for babies and children. In addition, it is usually washable, unlike leather. Many of our little ones are hypersensitive to allergens, and clothes with toxic metals such as chrome, nickel or cobalt can cause health problems.
However, the ecological alternative encourages local production, creating the virtuous circle of sustainability, in addition to favoring indigenous economies and workers. As there is less distance between the place of production and the place of sale, the carbon footprint is considerably reduced. This handcrafted manufacture, with limited units, is a guarantee of exclusivity. The product is unique, fashionable and adaptable to users.
There are many materials that can replace fur and other animal components: vegetable fibers (cotton, linen, jute, rubber, cork), synthetic fibers (polyester, serratex, velcro, spandex), and even surprising materials such as bamboo, recycled tires or coffee grounds. In this sense, PETA's recommendations are useful; We must also learn to detect false ecological shoes, which promise not to be made of leather, but which use components such as glues of animal origin, or minerals that are harmful to humans.
Little big wellness
In the case of Kikü, specialized in children's footwear, our products always try to comply with these premises. They are traditionally made, with a lot of love, in the Valencian Community, mainly using materials of plant, mineral or synthetic origin of great durability that can triple that of leather footwear, which is more expensive and difficult to maintain. The finishes almost always include seams and reinforcements, without glue and with a "cool" look!
At Kikü we are concerned about the well-being of children, that is why we offer breathable, antibacterial and resistant products; They can be machine cleaned without fading. Thanks to our quality, sustainability and values, we have obtained different certificates of international recognition. And it is that, through vegan footwear, we can promote responsible consumption with nature and animals, in addition to saving money and problems in the dermis of our children. As if this were not enough, our designs are as sophisticated as they are beautiful.
The limit is the imagination!
